WEEK 1 - Video Tutorials
Getting Started And Folder Structure
- Bin 32 & Bin 64 is where the game files are and Editor. I'm using 64 because my machine runs a 64 Bit processor.
- Code Folder - Examples of scripts. You can change the codes.
- Editor is where the editor files are stored.
- Game Folder - You can find a bunch of pack files. This is where the whole game is - (animations, sounds, materials, textures.)
- Pack files can be extracted to be changed.
Overview Of The CryENGINE 3 Sandbox User Interface
- Viewport - access wire frame mode. Built in (Display or F3)
- To isolate an entity just type in the search bar.
- Toggling the terrain button allows you to move through the terrain. This only works for terrain. (Not objects).
- Clicking on AI Graphics or 'ctrl G' changes real time physics and player view.
- 'Go to Position' (x-y-z coordinates) gives the exact coordinates of your position in the game.
- 'Roller Bar' - Everything we modify in the environment will be done through the 'roller bar'.
- 'Group' - Allows you to group a selection of objects or entities - this allows you to have your own scene a lot more organised.
- If you accidentally close the 'roller bar' which occurs often, go to 'view' & then 'show roller bar'.
- To be able to select a group or object without interference, you can chose the 'select all' drop down and click on the object you want to select.
- 'Snap angle' - affects rotation. You can snap it at whatever angle you like.
Customising The Editor
- You can customise your own toolbar. Click on 'Tools' - 'Customise Keyboard'.
- In 'Preferences' - 'General' under 'tools' click on 'Highlight selected Geometry'. You get yellow outlines and a pinkish shade on the object you select.
- 'Tools' - 'configure user command' you can have a panel on the side with your most used commands.
- You can drag each window panel on top of the other. This makes several tabs in a single window.
- You can turn off the toolbar if you don't use a lot.
Viewports
- 'W' - Moves forward. 'S' - Moves backwards. 'A' - Moves Left. 'D' - Moves Right.
- When moving forward, to move slightly faster you can always press 'shift'.
- Speed - '0.1' is slow. Begins from .1 to 10. Slower to faster. You can insert values. Ex. 0.4
User Interface Panels – Overview
- Select objects panel (ctrl D) is an overview of the objects in your scene.
- 'Asset Browser' allows you to browse for textures and sounds.
- 'DB' (Database View) - many entities you can use for your environment.
- 'View' - 'Time of Day' - You may change the time of day in your environment. You can specify the time you want.
- 'FG' (Flowgraphs) - the tool where you script your level and make things move.
